Battleships.
That amazing game played as a child (and still as an adult) where you sunk the crap out of your competitor’s ships. An overwhelming sense of accomplishment was then felt each time you conquered the correct sequence.
The modern day version? Battleships the band – the four piece from Sydney are making all the right noise. Pardon the pun.
Their motto, “To create music that we enjoy playing. And hopefully, something you would listen to too.” A refreshing retrospective considering the ‘marketable’, ‘branding’ and ‘competitive’ jargon predominately over-used throughout the industry.

In The Beginning…
Battleships has four members – Jordan (vocals/guitar), Jonathan (bass/keys), Dan (drums) and Nato (guitar). Jordan and Jonathan (friends since primary school) had always written music and been in bands together – some good, most bad. Jonathan was also friends with Dan. Jonathan and Dan decided to move to Sydney together. However, even though distance had separated them, Jordan and Jonathan were still writing songs together over Skype…and, as Dan had the necessary equipment needed to record music, Jonathan and Dan began recording these songs and working on developing a sound. Still, as great as technology is, Jonathan and Dan realised that everyone needs to be in the same place to play the songs. After much coercing, Jonathan finally convinced Jordan to venture to Sydney as well. They then sourced friend and guitarist Nato Hannaford to complete the line-up, and thus Battleships was formed.
How About Now?
We have just released our debut single ‘In Retrospect’. It is on rotation on Triple J (feel free to request it!), as well as being played on community radio. The music video for the song is also on Rage and it has been featured on a few blogs (much like this one!) and whatnot as well. All of these are firsts for us, so needless to say we are pretty stoked about it.
To Infinity & Beyond!
We are headlining 2012′s Coachella and hope to release an album a year for the next three years. No but seriously, we are currently working on things for our second single which should be out in the next few months…and some kind of tour this year would be awesome, but we’ll see what happens. Once again, these are all firsts for us, so we can only take it one day at a time – a week at a time max – otherwise our collective minds will be blown.
